Snail Games USA, the publisher behind the ARK series, has announced their latest AAA title, For The Stars. It is an ambitious 4X "open universe" survival game set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Players take on the role of an explorer and scientist, tasked with journeying across diverse planets to uncover the secrets of alien civilizations and expand territory via city building elements. Along the way, they encounter rare creatures, and harness resources to survive in hostile environments.
The game offers a vast, persistent multiplayer universe where players can establish and expand outposts, forge alliances, and leave a lasting legacy across the galaxy. They can team up with friends or form new alliances to explore the galaxy like a 4X title. These include collaborating on building projects, and competing for control of contested regions.
Activities like traversing through multiple planets is a common activity in For The Stars. Fans of Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky, or Bethesda’s Starfield will find the mechanics familiar.
It boasts a variety of features designed to immerse players in its expansive universe. The devs ensure that no two explorations are alike.
Customization also plays a key role in the gameplay experience. As a space survival game, players can design and build their own spacecraft. These can be tailored to their specific needs, whether for combat, exploration, or resource gathering.
For The Stars’ combat is also a highlight, offering fast-paced battles using futuristic weapons and special abilities with alien origins. As ambitious as these all sound, unfortunately there is no gameplay available yet.
Primus Majda, Game Director for For The Stars, expressed excitement about the announcement:
"We’re thrilled to finally officially announce For The Stars after three years of development. We are gamers first and foremost. We love survival games, and Snail has a lot of experience with them. Our goal is to create a game that's played like a sandbox survival game but has the impact of a 4X galaxy civilization game."
For The Stars is now available for wishlist on Steam.
